School Tours
Take your class on a field trip they won’t stop talking about!
History comes alive at the Sharlot Hall Museum, where fun and learning go hand in hand. Education is at the heart of what we do, and our fully guided field trips are designed around Arizona State Standards and, most importantly, your classroom’s needs. We’ll work with you to create an experience that supports your instructional goals while encouraging students to ask questions, investigate, and make connections with Arizona’s past.
Travel through Arizona’s diverse history as you explore our exhibits and historic buildings—from the Pleistocene era, when mammoths and dire wolves roamed the region, to Prescott’s role as the Territorial Capital and the story of Arizona’s first Governor’s Mansion. Step into a pioneer classroom for a lesson in our one-room schoolhouse, or imagine what it was like to travel across the West by covered wagon in our Transportation Building. Along the way, students will encounter the people, places, and stories that shaped Arizona and gain a deeper understanding of the state they call home.
Thanks to the support of our donors, the Sharlot Hall Museum offers school field trips and educational programs free of charge to students, educators, and chaperones. Give your students an unforgettable day of discovery, hands-on learning, and Arizona history!
School Tour Fees
K – 8th (or 12 years and under): Free
9th – 12th (or 13-18 years): Free
Adults: Free
Choose a tour that is right for you:
We offer two standard tours to choose from, or we can work with you to design a unique experience.
Territorial Arizona Tour:
Students will explore Arizona’s history, from pioneers traveling west to the formation of a territorial government and the development of early communities
Buildings/Exhibits included:
- Governor’s Mansion

- Transportation Building
Optional building tours we can add on: Blacksmith & Print Shop
Native American & Prescott Culture Tour
Students will learn about the Indigenous Peoples of Arizona and how they made a life for themselves on this land.
Buildings/Exhibits included:
- Lawler Prehistory Wing
- Lawler Native American & Prescott Cultures Exhibits
- Baskets Keep Talking Exhibit
Two hands-on activities:
- Split twig figurines
- Mano and metate (corn grinding)
Start your school tour booking process today:
Please note that we require a minimum of two weeks notice to coordinate a tour. The following information will also be required when booking:
- Preferred date and time: We recommend having two alternative dates/times, in case your preferred date is already booked. Tours can begin anytime between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm.
- Number of students: Let us know how many students you will be bringing! We are happy to accommodate classes of all sizes, but we encourage groups over 60 to split their trip into two visits.
- Number of adults/educators: We require one chaperone for every 10 students.
- Length of tours: 60- or 90-minutes. We strongly recommend the 90-minute tour option in order to fully enjoy the Museum experience.
- Tour focus area: Please describe your preferred topics for this tour—are your subjects of interest connected to your classroom studies or part of grade level curriculum? Let us know!
- Accessibility and accommodations: Please let us know if your group has any specific needs so our staff can ensure your tour experience is a safe and positive one.
- Want to bring lunch? Enjoy it on our beautiful grounds or in our amphitheater.
