FORT WHIPPLE MUSEUM GRAND REOPENING FRIDAY, MAY 3RD, 2024. A 20TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF THE OPENING OF THE FORT WHIPPLE MUSEUM WILL BE FRIDAY, MAY 17, 2024.

Prescott, AZ —Fort Whipple Museum’s Grand Reopening will be Friday, May 3rd, 2024. After a long hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Fort Whipple Museum is reopening. Join Sharlot Hall Museum staff, VA staff, and volunteers to celebrate the museum opening up to the public. Come and learn about the history of medicine and hospital care in Prescott and its close interaction with the military and the development of the Prescott area. Initial Fort Whipple Museum hours will be limited to Fridays, from 10 AM to 4 PM. A 20th anniversary celebration of the opening of the Fort Whipple museum is being planned for Friday, May 17, 2024.

On what is now the grounds of the Bob Stump Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Fort Whipple served as a primary tactical base for the U.S. Army during the Indian Wars of 1864 to 1886. A few decades later, Whipple became one of the military’s largest hospitals for the treatment of respiratory ailments, and continues today serving veterans as a VA medical facility.

Explore the Museum’s exhibits as you learn the Fort’s unique story: from military base and tactical headquarters to one of the nation’s largest military hospitals for respiratory diseases…and its modern role in veteran healthcare.
