Internship Opportunities

Internships provide a chance for youth from all backgrounds and with a range of interests to engage with real museum work and contribute to their community in a unique way.

Have you wondered what it would be like to work at a museum? Or, what museum staff do behind the scenes? This is your chance!

By undertaking a museum internship, students learn about the history of their community and the state of Arizona, as well as have the opportunity to practice their critical thinking, problem solving and creative skills. Throughout the whole internship program students receive the support and encouragement they need to challenge themselves and complete projects relevant to their interests and academic studies. This is one opportunity that is not to be missed!

High School Internship

Our High School Internship Program offers a unique opportunity for local high school students in their Junior and Senior years of high school to participate in a one-of-a-kind program that mentors, guides, and supports students as they research, develop, and complete projects at the Museum.

Application materials for Sharlot Hall’s High School Internship Program include a completed Application Form, Application Essay, Academic Resume (listing relevant coursework that has prepared the student to undertake an internship), and a Writing Sample. All application materials will be evaluated and a range of factors considered when selecting students for this program.

College Internship

Museums are excellent spaces to exercise the skills and knowledge that college students learn in the classroom. A College Internship at Sharlot Hall Museum enables students to apply their skills and understanding to museum projects that have a real impact on the work that the Museum does with the community.

Interested in working with the public or with youth? Internships can be completed in our education department. Have you wondered how historical artifacts are catalogued, preserved or presented? The Curatorial Department has the resources and know-how to answer these questions. Considering a career in media? The communications and media department offers real-world experience in journalism, broadcasting, photography and film-making, and information technology management.

If you are interested in exploring a career in the world of museums, an internship can help you get there. Internship options vary depending on funding and time of the calendar year.

To be considered for an internship, the student should be currently enrolled in or have graduated from an Accredited Institution of Higher Learning.

Past Internship Projects

Internship Projects at Sharlot Hall Museum have included researching and designing educational programming and hands-on exhibit interactives, as well as undertaking historical research that can ultimately be used for publication, public presentations and exhibit panels.

Regardless of what kind of project students complete, the result is a real product that highlights the students’ skills and contributes to the public’s understanding of the history of Arizona, the Central Highlands, and Prescott.
