Twilight Tales – “Kate Cory: From Manhattan to the Mesas”

Step into the true-life story of a Prescott pioneer and Manhattan socialite who came west to visit an art colony on the Hopi Mesas for just two weeks—and stayed for eight remarkable years.
Presented in full costume and first-person portrayal, Sharlot Hall’s “best friend,” Kate T. Cory, shares her extraordinary life among the Hopi people. Cory’s artwork is held in the collections of the Smithsonian Institution, the Museum of Indigenous People, and Sharlot Hall Museum. This special Twilight Tales program also celebrates the 165th birthday of Kate T. Cory, honoring her enduring artistic and cultural legacy.
Presenter: Brenda Cusick
Brenda Cusick brings Kate T. Cory to life on stage through extensive research and immersive interpretation. Cusick has studied Cory’s life at the Sharlot Hall Archives, Arizona State Capitol, Museum of Northern Arizona, Scottsdale Museum of the West, and the Museum of Indigenous People. She has also visited Cory’s home on the Hopi Mesas of Walpi and Oraibi. Cusick has presented programs at the Western Heritage Center, Phippen Museum, and Flagstaff’s Riordan Mansion, and has served on the Prescott Western Heritage Foundation Board of Directors.

Enjoy a light reception at 5:00 PM, followed by the program at 5:30 PM.
The event will be held in the Education Center Auditorium at Sharlot Hall Museum.
