“Stagecoach Operations and Stagecoach Driver James Grant” presented by Bob Baker
Before the performance, enjoy a light reception on the brick patio in front of the Transportation Building. Be sure to step inside to see Sharlot Hall Museum’s stagecoach. Then, just before 5:30, head over to the Education Center Auditorium for a step back in time to hear from James O. Grant himself. In 1869 he rolled into Prescott as the owner of the Arizona Stage Line. This marked the beginning of the first scheduled public passenger service. By operating the line, Grant would connect Prescott to the wider world, bringing customers through towns like Wickenburg and La Paz, among other places. This however, did not come without its hazards. With robberies, unruly drivers, rough terrain, equipment breakdowns, and more, travel on a Territorial stagecoach could be full of surprises. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to learn about Prescott and Yavapai County’s early transportation history, as well as the challenges of stagecoach drivers and the trials of stagecoach passengers.
This fundraising event begins with a light reception at 4:30pm on the red brick patio in front of the Transportation Building followed by a short presentation and Q&A. Museum favorite Bob Baker will give an overview of “Stagecoach Operations” as well as portray famous stagecoach driver James Grant.
All productions will take place in the cool air-conditioned Education Center Auditorium. Limited seating. Tickets required ($25 per person), please purchase ahead.
