The Governor’s Mansion “The Territory of 1863” Saturday, June 14th, 2025

Arizona officially joined the union as a territory in the year 1863 with Prescott established as the capital in 1864. Learn about the first governors of the territory, the first territorial capital, and the people who made a living here. Be sure to explore the Governor’s Mansion, located on its original site, and discover the beginnings of the Arizona territory.

This month, we are excited to announce two special attractions at Living History Adventure. The Central Arizona Model Railroad Club will be setting up a display in the West Gallery, and the Phoenix Pioneer Band will be performing at the Amphitheater for us. Fiber arts demonstrators will also be on campus so be sure to check out these stations to learn more about lace-making, quilting, spinning, and weaving.

During the peak of brass bands in the United States, almost every town with at least a handful of eager musicians boasted at least one band. In Arizona, cities such as Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa, Tucson, Globe, Bisbee, Prescott, and Yuma all had bands, with some even featuring multiple ensembles.

This trend mirrored the cultural atmosphere of America at the turn of the 20th century. The United States was becoming a prominent nation, still searching for its identity in the world, yet filled with a sense of purpose, community spirit, and the belief that anything was achievable if everyone worked together.

Living History Adventure is included with General Admission. Members and children 12 and under are always admitted free.
