Lecture Series – Saturday, January 25th @ 2pm – Robin LaCorte – “Three Lives, One Legacy: Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of Auschwitz’s Liberation”

The 80th anniversary of Auschwitz’s liberation reminds us of the millions who died in the Holocaust and of the survivors’ strength. An upcoming talk at the Sharlot Hall Museum will profile three Holocaust survivors that created new lives in Arizona. They are Gerta Weissman Klein, Doris Springer Martin, and Esther Basch. In an upcoming documentary, Esther, who lives in Prescott, shares the story of how she became known as the “Honey Girl of Auschwitz”. These women survived, and their indefatigable spirit created new lives that continue to inspire. This anniversary provides a chance to share their stories of strength and resilience.

Robin LaCorte holds a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in World War II Studies, completed in partnership with the National World War II Museum. She currently serves as the Holocaust Education Program Coordinator at the Martin-Springer Institute at Northern Arizona University, where she works closely with educators across Arizona to develop impactful Holocaust and genocide education programs. In addition, Robin is a member of the Phoenix Holocaust Association Board of Directors, the Arizona Department of Education Task Force on Holocaust and Genocide Education, and the Arizona Jewish Historical Society Education Committee.

 

Robin’s passion for studying World War II is deeply personal. As the daughter and granddaughter of three WWII veterans and one Rosie the Riveter, she grew up hearing stories of service, sacrifice, and resilience. This rich personal history, combined with her lifelong commitment to preserving the memory of the past, drives her work to ensure that stories of courage, resistance, and survival continue to inspire future generations.
